Kipruto, World Record Holder, Receives Six-Year Ban.

Kenya's Rhonex Kipruto, the world record holder for the 10km road race, has been handed a six-year ban due to irregularities detected in his Athlete Biological Passport.

The 24-year-old Kenyan runner will lose his record set in Valencia in 2020 and the bronze medal from the 2019 World Championships. He's facing a ban until May 2029 after a provisional suspension on May 11, 2023, for breaking anti-doping rules.

His Athlete Biological Passport (ABP), an electronic record tracking biomarkers, revealed significant changes, suggesting possible doping.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) stated, "The Tribunal rejected Kipruto's defense, concluding the 'cause for the abnormalities in the ABP is more likely to be due to blood manipulation' such as through the use of recombinant human erythropoietin (rEPO)."
