Fearnley Aims for Djokovic Upset: From Couch to Centre Court.

Less than a week before his 12th birthday, Jacob Fearnley sat on the sofa at his home in Edinburgh, captivated by the television coverage of the 2013 Wimbledon final.

At almost 12 years old, Jacob Fearnley sat on his couch in Edinburgh, watching the 2013 Wimbledon final where Andy Murray made history by ending Britain's 77-year wait for a men's singles champion. It was a monumental moment in British sports history, and Fearnley was completely absorbed.

Now, 11 years later at the age of 22, Fearnley is preparing to step onto Centre Court to face the same opponent Murray did that day - Novak Djokovic.

Just over a month ago, Fearnley was ranked outside the top 500 players in the world. However, his recent outstanding performances have earned him a prestigious match against the 24-time major champion in the second round of Wimbledon on Thursday.

"I was glued to the couch. I didn't move," recalls Fearnley.

"I've watched him countless times on TV. What he has achieved in the sport and his style of play are truly remarkable," says Fearnley, who is now ranked 277th in the world.

"It will be daunting but also surreal to see him across the net. He's definitely one of my idols. If I can play even half as well as him, I'll be satisfied."

Just six weeks ago, Fearnley graduated from Texas Christian University (TCU) in the USA with a degree in kinesiology, the study of human movement. Now fully focused on his tennis career, Fearnley reflects on his journey and the support of his parents who emphasized education as a backup plan.

"I always wanted to go to the States. I was a bit physically behind and schooling was important - my parents wanted me to have something to fall back on if tennis didn't work out," Fearnley explains.
