Cyclist Who Escaped Tigray Conflict Gears Up for Olympic Dream.

When the war began and conditions worsened, I chose to stay strong and focus on my dreams. This mindset helped me get through those tough times.

Eyeru Gebru's love for cycling is boundless, as is her gratitude for the life it has given her. Born in Tigray, Ethiopia, in the mid-1990s, she will compete at the Paris Olympics as part of the Refugee Olympic Team.

This has been her dream since childhood.

"As a young girl, I watched bike races in my city and fell in love with the sport," Gebru told BBC World Service Sport.

"I told myself, 'I want to ride a bike.' It took nearly a decade to learn, but it was worth it. I knew I needed to work hard and believe in my dreams."
