Asher-Smith Speeds to European 100m Gold in Rome.

Dina Asher-Smith secured the gold medal in the 100m event at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, with her British teammates Georgia Bell and Lizzie Bird also earning medals.

Dina Asher-Smith triumphed in the 100m race with a time of 10.99 seconds, outpacing Poland's Ewa Swoboda (11.03secs) and Italy's Zaynab Dosso. This victory marked her first major international medal since securing European 200m silver in 2022.

Georgia Bell secured a silver medal in the women's 1500m event, clocking in at four minutes and 05.33 seconds, achieving her first major international medal just behind Ireland's Ciara Mageean.

Meanwhile, Lizzie Bird replicated her European 3,000m steeplechase bronze performance from two years ago, finishing in 9:18.39 amid thunder and lightning in Rome.

Great Britain ascended to third place in the medal standings after bagging two golds on Sunday. Asher-Smith's win was the fifth European triumph for the team, following a gold in the women's half marathon earlier in the day led by bronze medalist Calli Hauger-Thackery.

Mageean displayed a strong finish in the tactical 1500m final, securing Ireland's second gold of the championships with a time of 4:04.66 seconds.

Jemma Reekie from Britain initially led but ended up in fifth place with a time of 4:06.17, while Katie Snowden finished ninth with a time of 4:06.83.

Bird briefly moved up to the silver medal position after the disqualification of Alice Finot of France (9:16.22) due to an inside track infringement.
