Vondrousova Withdraws from Paris 2024 Due to Injury.

Olympic silver medallist Marketa Vondrousova has been forced to withdraw from the Paris 2024 Games after sustaining a hand injury. Her absence is a significant blow as she was a strong contender.

The 25-year-old Czech player, Marketa Vondrousova, decided to withdraw from the Paris 2024 Games after her early exit from Wimbledon earlier this month. She was the first Wimbledon ladies’ singles champion since Steffi Graf in 1994 to be knocked out in the first round, losing to Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Vondrousova, who won silver at Tokyo 2020, announced on Instagram that she would skip the Paris Games to focus on preparing for the US Open, starting on August 26.

"I’m very sorry, but due to health reasons, I won't be participating in this year’s Paris Olympic Games," Vondrousova said.

She had hoped to compete in doubles but her hand issues have made it impossible. Vondrousova, who would have been the 12th seed, will be replaced by Katerina Siniakova in singles and Linda Noskova in doubles.

She joins other notable absentees like Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur, and Emma Raducanu.

In the men’s competition, Poland’s seventh-ranked Hubert Hurkacz has also withdrawn due to a knee injury that forced him to retire from Wimbledon’s second round. "My rehab is going well, but my team and I have decided I can't compete in Paris," Hurkacz said.
