Horschel Eager to Revisit Venue of McIlroy Upset.

As the Irish Open returns to Royal County Down in September, Billy Horschel will be reminded of some cherished memories.

Billy Horschel, who finished tied for second at last week’s Open Championship, hasn’t returned to Royal County Down since the 2007 Walker Cup.

As a 20-year-old, Horschel was part of the U.S. team that defeated Great Britain and Ireland in the 41st Walker Cup.

The American squad included future stars like Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, and Rickie Fowler, but Horschel made a significant impact, earning three points in their 12.5-11.5 win.

Notably, he won two matches against Rory McIlroy, who was then an 18-year-old amateur. McIlroy had previously won the silver medal at the 2007 Open, but Horschel defeated him in both foursomes and singles, though McIlroy later exacted some revenge.
