Environmental Activists Disrupt Two Matches at the Italian Open.

Climate activists caused a disruption at the Italian Open in Rome, leading to the suspension of two matches.

A protest by climate activists interrupted two matches at the Italian Open in Rome. The last-16 match between Madison Keys and Sorana Cirstea was disrupted, as well as a doubles match involving Santiago Gonzalez, Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Marcelo Arevalo, and Mate Pavic.

During Keys' match, two activists wearing orange vests threw confetti onto the court, leading to a temporary halt. Additionally, some protestors glued themselves to the stands before being removed by authorities.

The disruption was brief, and play resumed with Keys eventually defeating Cirstea 6-2 6-1.

A similar protest caused a temporary stoppage in the doubles match on court 12.

In other tournament news, Naomi Osaka suffered a defeat against China's Zheng Qinwen in the last 16.

Zheng, the Australian Open runner-up, staged a remarkable comeback after being 2-1 down in the first set, winning 6-2 6-3 in one hour and 24 minutes.
