Australia Lands 2026 World Cup Hosting Rights.

France was set to host the 2025 tournament but withdrew after struggling to secure government support.

Instead, Australia will now host the men's, women's, and wheelchair World Cups in October and November 2026, with some matches also taking place in Papua New Guinea.

Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V'landys predicts it will be the most "culturally diverse World Cup ever," enhancing rugby league's status in the Pacific.

Originally, New Zealand planned to host in 2025, but the International Rugby League (IRL) chose to delay until 2026 for better success chances.

IRL chairman Troy Grant noted the sport's growth in Australia and the Pacific, with sold-out stadiums and high TV ratings. The condensed format will ensure every game is exciting, with potential double- or triple-headers offering fans great value.
