Ashish Nehra Weighs In on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Plans to Play Until 2027.

Former India cricketer Ashish Nehra thinks Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s ability to play until the 2027 ODI World Cup hinges on their physical and mental fitness.

As younger players like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sai Sudharsan continue to make runs, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will need to constantly improve to keep their spots on the team.

Ashish Nehra mentioned, “It’s all about physical and mental fitness. Kohli and Sharma have the passion and drive that have gotten them to where they are. They’ll need to keep pushing themselves as young talent keeps emerging and challenging their positions.”

"2027 feels far off, but it's a good goal to have," Nehra said. "If you ask anyone like Gambhir, who loves the game, he’d say, ‘Even if my body is fit, I’d want to keep playing.’ Four years is a long time, but it’s a great idea. If Kohli and Sharma can manage it, that would be fantastic."

By the 2027 ODI World Cup, Virat Kohli will be over 38 and Rohit Sharma will be 40.
