Harvey the Hound gets voted the worst NHL mascot

In a poll ranking the most beloved NHL mascots, Harvey the Hound of the Calgary Flames has placed last. He has also been voted the second-most “obnoxious” mascot during a game, as well as the third scariest. This may be heartbreaking for the mascot who also happens to be NHL’s first mascot.

Moreover, mascots of Canadian teams have proved to be generally popular with Spartacat of the Ottawa Senators ranked just one place above Harvey, Youppi! of the Montreal Canadiens ranked at 26^th, Fin the Whale of the Vancouver Canucks placed at 21^st, and Hunter of the Edmonton Oilers ranked 19^th. Teams from Canada to fare well include the Winnipeg Jets, whose mascot Mick E. Moore came in at second position, and Toronto Maple Leaf’s Carlton the Bear coming in at 4.

Alternately, in the poll ranking the scariest mascots, Harvey placed third, with AI the Octopus and Gritty ranked 1^st and 2^nd, with the Hunter of the Edmonton Oilers and the NJ Devil not too far behind. On the poll for the cutest mascots, Carlton the Bear grabbed the top spot, followed by Colorado Avalanche’s Bernie the St. Bernard, Carolina Hurricane’s Stormy, Minnesota Wild’s Nordy, and St. Louis Blues’ Louis. Overall, 78% of poll respondents said they liked mascots in general, as well as the mascot of the team they follow. 665 also felt that mascots contribute to the experience of NHLand have a positive interaction with fans.
