Yousofi Selected for Historic Gender-Equal Afghanistan Team.

Kimia Yousofi embodies the hope and resilience of Afghan women, having been selected as one of six athletes to represent Afghanistan at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Her inclusion in the team symbolizes a significant step towards gender equality in Afghan sports, showcasing the determination to overcome challenges and pursue athletic excellence despite adversity.

As she prepares to compete on the global stage, Yousofi carries with her the aspirations and untold stories of Afghan women who dream of a brighter future through sports. Her journey is not just about athletic achievement but also about breaking barriers and inspiring a nation grappling with profound change.

Kimia Yousofi, the 100m sprinter, carried Afghanistan's flag at the Tokyo Games three years ago but had to flee her homeland to Iran when the Taliban regained control in August 2021, fearing persecution.

A year later, she was among five athletes and officials associated with the Olympic movement who were granted safe passage to Australia, where she now resides.

"It's a privilege to once again represent the girls of my country—girls and women who have been denied fundamental rights, especially education, which is the most crucial," she stated.
