Manchester City midfielder Rodri says players are nearly ready to strike over the rising number of games.
Manchester City will face Inter Milan on Wednesday in the Champions League, which now includes at least two additional games before the knockout stage due to a new format.
The Club World Cup, also featuring City, has expanded to 32 teams and will take place next summer.
Rodri has expressed concern, saying players are "close" to striking over the increased schedule. "If it continues this way, we might have no choice but to act," he added.
With the new formats, City will play at least four more games compared to last season. They previously played just two matches to win the Club World Cup in December, but next summer they could face three group games and four knockout rounds if they progress to the final.
