Wright and Chisnall Bow Out Early in World Matchplay Tournament.

Peter Wright's challenging 2024 season continued as he suffered a first-round defeat to Andrew Gilding at the World Matchplay in Blackpool, marking a disappointing start for the former champion.

Two-time world champion Peter Wright's challenging 2024 season continued with a disappointing first-round exit at the World Matchplay in Blackpool.

After struggling through the Premier League and finishing at the bottom of the table, Wright faced Andrew Gilding and fell short in a 10-5 defeat.

Despite a strong recovery to level the match at 4-4 after an early deficit, Wright's struggles with finishing crucial legs allowed Gilding, ranked 20th in the world, to regain control and secure the victory.

This marked Wright's first exit in the opening round of the Matchplay since 2014, adding to his season's woes.
