WADA Weighs Appeal Against Knighton Ruling.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is considering an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after American sprinter Erriyon Knighton avoided a ban for using a prohibited substance.

Knighton, 20, tested positive for trenbolone, a banned muscle growth substance, in March.

An independent arbitrator ruled on June 19 that Knighton likely ingested the substance through contaminated meat, clearing him to compete in the United States' Olympic trials starting Friday in Oregon.

WADA is awaiting the detailed decision before deciding on an appeal. A WADA spokesperson noted that testing positive for trenbolone from contaminated meat is "extremely rare." Trenbolone is legally used as a growth promoter in U.S. beef cattle.

USADA chief executive Travis Tygart stated that "justice" was served with Knighton's clearance.
