Union Budget 2024: Khelo India Receives ₹900 Crore to Boost Grassroots Sports.

In the Union Budget, the government earmarked ₹900 crore for its flagship Khelo India initiative, out of a total allocation of ₹3,442.32 crore announced on Tuesday.

Khelo India, which champions grassroots sports development, emerged as the top recipient in the sports ministry's budget once again, underscoring its pivotal role in fostering athletic talent at the grassroots level.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an additional ₹20 crore for Khelo India, bringing its total to ₹900 crore, up from the revised ₹880 crore last year.

With the Paris Olympics approaching in August and the Commonwealth and Asian Games still two years away, the Sports Ministry’s budget has only increased slightly by ₹45.36 crore from the previous cycle.

Last year, the budget was ₹3,396.96 crore. The government’s continued investment in Khelo India aims to discover and nurture talent across the country.
