Tyrell Terry announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 22.

Former Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyrell Terry has officially announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 22. He called off his departure claiming mental health issues to be the main cause behind the decision.

Terry, who played two years in the NBA, announced on Instagram he will retire from the sport. He said basketball caused him anxiety, and he experienced the "darkest times" of his life while playing the sport.

Terry played collegiately at Stanford for just one season in 2019-20 and was a Pac-12 All-Freshman selection while averaging 14.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game and shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from deep.

However, he appeared in just 11 games as a rookie and missed time for personal reasons.
