Three Kenyan athletes banned for violating anti-doping rules.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) have handed suspension to three more Kenyan athletes for violating anti-doping rules. The latest are the sprinter Mark Otieno Odhiambo and Porto Marathon winner Alice Jepkemboi Kimutai.

Sprinter Mark Otieno tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid methasterone and was suspended from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and will serve a two-year ban starting July 2021.

Mark Otieno Odhiambo will have a season to qualify for Paris 2024, returning in late July 2023.

On the other hand, two marathoners Alice Jepkemboi Kimutai and Johnstone Kibet Maiyo were handed a suspension for three years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

Jepkemboi won the Porto Marathon just last month and a positive test was flagged soon after, meaning she is to serve a three-year ban from November 16 2022 for the presence and use of testosterone.

Johnstone Kibet Maiyo was also handed the same punishment of three years for admitting to the offence of the presence and use of a banned substance. The 34-year-old was found to have used erythropoietin, best known as EPO.
