Thomas Clinches 200m Title as Asher-Smith & Neita Fall Short.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita narrowly missed the Olympic 200m podium, finishing just three-hundredths of a second short, as Gabby Thomas took the gold.

American Gabby Thomas, favored after Jamaica's world champion Shericka Jackson withdrew, dominated the Olympic 200m final with a time of 21.83 seconds.

Daryll Neita and Dina Asher-Smith, both aiming to be the first British woman on an Olympic sprint podium in 64 years, fell short.

Asher-Smith finished fourth in 22.22, while Neita was fifth in 22.23. Julien Alfred took silver with 22.08, and Brittany Brown earned bronze with 22.20.

Thomas, who won bronze in Tokyo and silver at the world championships last year, seized her moment in the absence of her main rival. She celebrated with a triumphant roar and disbelief.

“I’ve envisioned this race so many times,” Thomas said. “I couldn’t believe it. Becoming an Olympic gold medallist was the happiest moment of my life.”
