Rising Stars to Watch at the Paris Olympics.

As we approach the opening of the 30th Summer Olympics on Friday, 26 July, BBC Sport highlights the emerging talents and potential future champions poised to dazzle in Paris. Keep an eye on these young stars as they aim to make their mark on the world stage.

Phoebe Gill (Great Britain) - athletics

At just 17, Phoebe Gill is set to become the youngest British track athlete to compete in the Olympics in over 40 years. She secured her spot by winning her first British title in June, defeating Tokyo 2020 fourth-place finisher Jemma Reekie.

In May, two weeks after her 17th birthday, Gill set a new European under-18 800m record with a time of 1:57.86.

Now, she aims to follow in the footsteps of her teammate Keely Hodgkinson and win a medal at her first Games.

Summer McIntosh (Canada) - swimming

At just 17, record-breaking swimmer Summer McIntosh is poised to make a huge impact at her second Olympics.

The Canadian sensation holds the world record in the 400m individual medley and is the second-fastest woman ever in both the 400m and 800m freestyle.

In February, she ended three-time Olympic champion Katie Ledecky's 13-year unbeaten streak in the 800m freestyle.

In Paris, McIntosh will compete in the 200m butterfly, 400m individual medley, 200m individual medley, and 400m freestyle, as well as likely participating in several relay events.

As a two-time world champion in the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley, she's set to shine on the Olympic stage once again.

Lola Tambling (Great Britain) - skateboarding

Lola Tambling is set to join fellow teen sensation Sky Brown in skateboarding at Paris 2024. Brown, who became Britain’s youngest Olympic medallist at 13 with her bronze win in 2021, will welcome Tambling to the team.

Tambling's Olympic journey began at the tender age of seven, inspired by her parents who opened a skatepark in Saltash, Cornwall.

Now 16, she showcased her skills by finishing sixth at last year's World Championships, proving she's a strong contender for her Olympic debut at the iconic Place de La Concorde.
