PSG Mulls Legal Action Against Lyon's Owner Textor.

Paris Saint-Germain have warned Lyon owner John Textor that they will take legal action unless he ceases what they consider "defamatory and harmful statements" about the club.

PSG felt compelled to address comments made by Lyon owner John Textor in an interview with Brazilian publication Globo.

Textor, who owns a majority stake in Lyon through Eagle Football Holdings and is a major shareholder in Crystal Palace, described PSG as a "model of unchecked spending" and said he was up against "a country, not just an owner." PSG, owned by Qatar Sports Investments since 2011, felt these remarks were unwarranted.

In a letter from PSG’s general secretary Victoriano Melero, the club labeled Textor’s comments as "false, incendiary, undignified, and nonsensical." The letter also highlighted Textor's own club’s issues with UEFA and DNCG regulations, accusing him of hypocrisy.

Last July, France's financial watchdog, the DNCG, put Lyon's transfers and wage bill under scrutiny for the 2023-24 season due to insufficient financial guarantees. These measures were lifted in December after Lyon's new budget was approved.

In their letter, PSG also pointed out that Textor criticized the Premier League's spending rules in February. They noted, "You claim to be competing 'against a country' with PSG, ignoring that a large part of our club is owned by US investor Arctos—something you might expect from an American."

PSG revealed that less than 20% of their commercial revenue comes from Qatari companies, with only one of 50 new partners in the past six years being Qatari.

The letter concluded by warning Textor that if he persists with his "defamatory and damaging statements," PSG might take additional legal action in France. Textor, who is also the largest shareholder of Brazilian club Botafogo, is currently facing a lawsuit in Brazil for corruption and match-fixing allegations, which he continues to defend.
