Okolie Sees New Bridgerweight Division as Ideal for His Career.

On Friday, Lawrence Okolie is set to battle Lukasz Rozanski in Poland for the WBC bridgerweight title.

British boxer Lawrence Okolie, a former WBO world champion at cruiserweight, will face Lukasz Rozanski in Poland on Friday for the WBC bridgerweight title.

This new division, created by the WBC in 2020, aims to bridge the gap between cruiserweight and heavyweight.

Although the fight is promoted as a world title bout, the bridgerweight division is not universally recognized in boxing. While the WBC and WBA acknowledge it, other major bodies like the IBF and WBO do not, and respected sources like Ring Magazine and Boxrec also do not recognize it as an official weight class.

For Okolie, this fight presents an opportunity to transition toward the heavyweight division. Bridgerweight starts at 14st 4lb (90.7kg) with a maximum limit of 16st (101.6kg).
