London Deputy Mayor to Decide on Wimbledon Expansion.

London's Deputy Mayor, Jules Pipe, will make the final call on expanding the All England Club.

The All England Club has proposed an expansion of Wimbledon Park, including more tennis courts and a larger stadium. However, local councils couldn't reach an agreement on the plans. Now, the decision rests with the Greater London Authority (GLA).

The Mayor of London supported the expansion but has decided not to participate in the decision-making process. Local Members of Parliament (MPs) and many residents in the area are against the proposal, citing concerns about its impact on green spaces.

Despite the opposition, the All England Club has made promises to offset the development's impact. This includes creating a new public park and providing community access to some of the courts. A petition against the plans has garnered over 16,000 signatures.

The GLA will conduct a planning hearing to thoroughly review the proposal and address the concerns raised by various stakeholders in the decision-making process.
