Japanese Gymnast Faces Olympic Disqualification for Smoking Incident.

Shoko Miyata, captain of Japan's women's artistic gymnastics team, is reportedly being sent home from the Olympics for allegedly breaking a smoking ban, according to Kyodo news agency.

The Japan Gymnastics Association (JGA) is investigating Shoko Miyata for allegedly violating their smoking ban, casting doubt on her participation in the Paris Olympics.

The 19-year-old gymnast, who won bronze at the 2022 World Championships, missed Wednesday's training session in Monaco for unspecified reasons, according to the JGA.

Miyata will be interviewed by the JGA and her Juntendo University team upon her return to Japan.

Japan aims to win its first artistic gymnastics team medal since the 1964 Tokyo Games.

The Paris Olympics begin on July 26.
