Humphries Triumphs Over Van Gerwen to Capture Matchplay Crown.

Luke Humphries secured the World Matchplay title, adding it to his World Championship win, with an exciting 18-15 victory over Michael van Gerwen.

The 29-year-old Englishman, Luke Humphries, held his nerve to overcome a comeback from Dutch rival Michael van Gerwen at Blackpool's Winter Gardens.

Humphries sealed his win with a crucial 100 checkout, hitting double 20 twice, as Van Gerwen closed in.

Humphries joins an elite group—Van Gerwen, Peter Wright, and Phil Taylor—as the fourth player to win both the World Matchplay and World Championship in the same year.

"I've felt more emotion than when I won the worlds," Humphries said. "I’m going to watch that double top 100 times tonight. I feel so blessed to have my name on that trophy."

With a ton-plus average of 100.94 and 12 180s during the tournament, Humphries also secured a £200,000 prize.
