Harrington Calls It a Career After Securing Second Olympic Gold.

Ireland's Kellie Harrington made history by clinching her second consecutive Olympic gold medal with a win over China's Wenlu Yang in the women's 60kg final at Roland Garros.

After the bout, Kellie Harrington announced her retirement from boxing and the start of a new chapter with her partner, Mandy.

The 34-year-old exited her career on a high note, winning a split 4-1 decision over China's Wenlu Yang in an atmosphere that felt more like Dublin than Paris.

Harrington’s victory helped make Paris 2024 the most successful Olympics in Ireland’s history, with four golds and three bronze medals.

She solidified her status as one of Ireland's greatest Olympians by defending the gold she won in Tokyo three years ago. When the decision was announced, Harrington fell to her knees and then danced in the ring as the enthusiastic Irish supporters celebrated in the stands of Court Philippe-Chatrier.

The excitement continued during the medal ceremony, with fans dancing to hit after hit from the in-house sound system.
