Former Aston Villa Winger El Ghazi Triumphs in Legal Battle Against Mainz.

Anwar El Ghazi, formerly of Aston Villa and Everton, won a legal case last season against Mainz, where a German court ruled that his contract had been unfairly terminated.

Anwar El Ghazi, now 29 years old, filed a complaint for wrongful dismissal at the Labour Court of Mainz after Mainz terminated his contract on 2nd November following social media posts related to the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Mainz, represented by acting media director Silke Bannick, acknowledged the court's decision and awaits written reasons before deciding on a potential appeal.

El Ghazi's lawyer confirmed the court's ruling to BBC Sport. Nujum Sports, an organization for Muslim athletes, hailed the verdict as a landmark, emphasizing it as a victory for athletes' freedom of speech.

El Ghazi personally attended the court hearing. Reports from Germany suggest he may be reinstated at Mainz and seek a mutual termination of his contract. It's reported he is owed approximately £1.4m in salary and bonuses by the club.
