Carsley Poised to Take Interim Role as England Boss.

Lee Carsley is set to serve as the interim manager for the England men's senior team during their Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland next month.

Lee Carsley, who led the England Under-21s to their first European Championship win in 39 years in 2023, is expected to become the interim manager of the England senior team for their Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland next month.

Gareth Southgate resigned as England manager following their defeat to Spain in the 2024 Euros final.

Historically, the transition from Under-21s manager to senior team caretaker has been common, with figures like Howard Wilkinson, Stuart Pearce, and Southgate himself moving up from the Young Lions.

Southgate, who initially took the interim role and later secured the position permanently, led England for eight years, achieving notable successes including a World Cup semi-final in 2018 and reaching the finals of the Euros in 2021 and 2024.

The Football Association is currently searching for Southgate's permanent replacement, having published a job advert. They have not commented on the search but have indicated an "interim solution" is in place.

Carsley, 50, is a former Premier League midfielder with a 17-year career, including stints at Derby and Everton.
