Broadhurst Advances to Quarter-Finals in Olympic Qualifier.

Amy Broadhurst from Great Britain secured her second victory at the Olympic qualifier in Thailand by defeating Terris Smith, advancing to the quarter-finals in the 60kg division.

Dundalk's Amy Broadhurst secured a clear 5-0 victory against her Canadian opponent on Wednesday. This tournament marks her debut for Great Britain after switching from Ireland.

At 27, Broadhurst is a decorated fighter, having won titles at the World, European, and Commonwealth Games two years ago. She switched to Britain in March after missing selection for Ireland's final qualifier in Bangkok.

In her weight division, three spots for the Paris Games are available, so Broadhurst needs to either reach the final in Thailand or win a box-off for third place to qualify for her first Olympics.

"We're halfway there - two more to go," she remarked to GB Boxing after her win. "It might not have been my best performance, but I still secured a comfortable victory. It shows that even on an off day, I'm a tough opponent."

Her journey in the tournament started with another unanimous 5-0 win against Spain's Sheila Martinez.

Victory in Sight - Walsh Nears Qualification for Paris

Ireland's Aidan Walsh advanced to the quarter-finals in Thailand with a 3-2 split decision win against Yuri Zakharieiev of Ukraine. Despite both boxers receiving two point deductions during the match, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist came out on top.

Walsh is aiming for one of the five spots available for Paris in his light-middleweight division. Winning the quarter-final on Friday would secure his spot in the Olympics. The loser will compete against the other three defeated quarter-finalists for the remaining place.

The Belfast native is eager to join his sister Michaela on the Ireland boxing team at the Games.
