Boxer Khelif Triumphs in Paris Despite Eligibility Controversy.

Boxer Imane Khelif, facing questions about her gender eligibility, was overcome with emotion after securing a welterweight medal at the Paris Olympics by defeating Hungarian Luca Anna Hamori.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, one of only two athletes competing in Paris despite being banned from last year's World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA) over gender eligibility issues, secured a welterweight medal amidst significant controversy.

Khelif, who had previously won a bout in just 46 seconds, went the full three rounds in her match on Saturday, earning a unanimous decision victory to a rousing cheer from her Algerian supporters.

Emotional after her win, Khelif told BBC sports editor Dan Roan, 'I feel good. It's the first medal in women's boxing for Algeria—I'm very happy. I want to thank everyone and the Arab world.'

Although Hungarian opponent Luca Anna Hamori had voiced concerns about the fairness of Khelif's participation, the match was conducted in good spirits. The two boxers embraced both after the fight and once the result was confirmed.
