Alfie Hewett from Britain didn't keep his Australian Open wheelchair singles title. He lost to 17-year-old Tokito Oda in the final, and it happened in straight sets.
Last year, Hewett won his first Australian Open title by defeating Oda in the final.
However, this year, Oda turned the tables and beat Hewett 6-2, 6-4 in the final.
Despite the loss, Hewett expressed pride in making it to the final and acknowledged the special moment of winning last year.
In a positive note, Hewett and his partner Reid won the men's wheelchair doubles title by defeating Oda and Miki.
Oda had previously defeated Hewett in the French Open and Wimbledon finals in 2023. This time, Oda won his third major title by breaking Hewett's serve and securing a victory in one hour and 31 minutes.
Hewett, although not at his best, acknowledged the high-quality tennis played by Oda and credited his team for their support throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, in other wheelchair categories, world number one Diede de Groot won her 13th consecutive Grand Slam title in the women's wheelchair singles, and Dutch player Sam Schroder secured his third straight Australian Open title in the quad wheelchair singles.
