Why Kieron Pollard and Tim David Faced Fines for IPL 2024 Matches?

Mumbai Indians player Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard were fined 20% of their match fees for violating the IPL's Code of Conduct during their match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 18.

The fine was given because of a video from the match that went viral and stirred controversy. It showed team members and support staff allegedly helping Suryakumar Yadav with an illegal review request while he was batting.

"David and Pollard were found guilty of a Level 1 violation under Article 2.20 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. They were fined 20% of their match fees," stated an IPL announcement on Saturday. "Both players acknowledged the violation and agreed with the match referee's decision."

The match referee's decision is conclusive for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.

During the 15th over of Mumbai Indians' innings, a delivery from Arshdeep Singh was outside off-stump and very close to the line.

Suryakumar, batting at 67 off 47 balls, attempted to play it but the on-field umpire ruled it as a legal delivery.

However, TV footage showed MI head coach Mark Boucher signaling to Suryakumar that it was a wide ball.

Subsequently, David and Pollard were observed encouraging Suryakumar to take a review, which is against the rules.
