Iconic Maradona Golden Ball Up for Auction Amidst Controversy.

Diego Maradona's Golden Ball trophy, given for his outstanding performance in the 1986 World Cup, has been located after being reported stolen. The trophy will now go up for auction in France on June 6th.

The Aguttes auction house recently announced that Diego Maradona's Golden Ball trophy, awarded for his outstanding performance in the 1986 World Cup, has been found and is expected to fetch "millions" at an upcoming auction in France.

Maradona, who passed away in 2020, earned the prestigious award after leading Argentina to victory in Mexico.

"There are various stories and legends surrounding the trophy, including rumors of mafia involvement in its theft for gold," explained Francois Thierry, a sports expert at Aguttes auction house. "We conducted thorough checks and alerted the authorities."

The Golden Ball had been in possession of an anonymous seller since 2016, who acquired it along with other items at a French auction. Initially unaware of its significance, the seller later realized its value after researching online.

"In the lot he purchased, there were numerous trophies. Initially, he didn't realize its importance," Thierry added.
