Liverpool's FSG in Negotiations to Acquire Bordeaux.

Fenway Sports Group, owners of Liverpool FC, are currently in discussions to acquire the struggling French club Bordeaux.

Bordeaux faced a dramatic twist as they were provisionally relegated to the third-tier National 1 by French football's financial watchdog, the DNCG, on Tuesday.

This decision came after the club failed to provide necessary financial guarantees for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

In a bid to appeal the decision and secure their place in Ligue 2 next season, Bordeaux now has a two-week window to finalize a sale. Talks have intensified with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), owners of Liverpool FC, who presented a takeover proposal during Tuesday's crucial meeting with the DNCG.

"Fenway Sports Group has shown interest in potentially acquiring Girondins de Bordeaux and is currently engaged in initial discussions," stated FSG. "While these talks are still in the exploratory phase, we prefer not to comment further at this time."

Earlier this year, FSG appointed Michael Edwards as their football chief executive, a move aimed at expanding their portfolio to include managing a second club.

Bordeaux was granted an initial reprieve by the DNCG on June 27, adding a layer of uncertainty to their future in French football.
