Colombian rider Einer Rubio displayed an impressive performance and edge past Thibaut Pinot and Jefferson Cepeda to grab the shortened 74.6km-stage 13 of the Giro d'Italia after a bizarre delayed start, with organisers forced to change the route due to adverse weather conditions.
Rubio (Movistar) delivered a perfectly-timed sprint in the final kilometre to earn his first Grand Tour stage win in style, while Geraint Thomas retained the leader's maglia rosa jersey.
The route had already been changed earlier in the week with the top of the Passo del Gran San Bernardo cut because of snowfall and a risk of avalanches.
Before the start of today's race, organizers announced that that climb would be removed completely because of adverse weather conditions in Italy, with the riders instead starting past the halfway point and the stage slashed to 80 kilometers.
