Dual Cheltenham Winner Shishkin Passed Away.

Shishkin, a two-time winner at the Cheltenham Festival, has passed away due to a leg injury sustained in a stable accident, according to his trainer Nicky Henderson.

Shishkin, who was set to race in the Punchestown Gold Cup, has tragically passed away following a leg injury in his stable. The horse had notable victories, winning the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2020 and the Arkle Chase in the subsequent year.

Nicky Henderson, Shishkin's trainer, expressed deep sadness over the loss, calling Shishkin their star and stating that he will always be remembered.

Earlier in the season, Shishkin had a refusal to race at Ascot but had shown potential in the King George VI Chase before a fall. He also missed the Cheltenham Gold Cup due to a virus at the Seven Barrows yard and finished fourth in the Aintree Bowl in his final race.

Henderson and everyone associated with Seven Barrows, including owners Joe and Marie Donnelly, expressed devastation at the loss of such a talented and beloved horse.

They highlighted Shishkin's impressive racing career, with standout performances including his battles with Energumene at Ascot and his victories at Cheltenham.
