Zheng Clinches Women's Singles Gold, Shining for China.

Zheng Qinwen secured the women's singles gold for China in Paris by defeating Donna Vekic in straight sets.

Zheng Qinwen, who finished as runner-up at the Australian Open in January, claimed the women's singles gold at Roland Garros with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Croatia's Donna Vekic.

The 21-year-old Zheng quickly built a 3-0 lead in the first set and converted her first set point on Vekic's serve. The second set was closer, but Zheng, ranked seventh in the world, broke Vekic's serve in the crucial eighth game and held her own to win.

Vekic, 28, reached the gold medal match shortly after narrowly missing the Wimbledon final, where she lost in the semi-finals to Jasmine Paolini in a tie-break.

In the final match at Roland Garros on Saturday, Lorenzo Musetti of Italy will compete against Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime for the men's singles bronze.
