World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews was ruled 'timed out', the first such dismissal in international cricket.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews scripted an unwanted record as became the first player in international cricket to be 'timed out' in Monday's World Cup match against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

According to cricket rules, the incoming batsman has to be ready to face a ball within three minutes of the fall of a wicket.

Mathews had not even faced a ball. Mathews was seen arguing with the umpires that there was something wrong with the strap.

Shakib was seen chatting with umpire Marais Erasmus before making an appeal and the batter was adjudged timed out.

"My point is that Mathews' dismissal was not good for the spirit of cricket," Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka, who smashed a century in the match, told the broadcasters.
