Max Verstappen of Red Bull has been reprimanded by the FIA for using profanity during an official news conference.
At the Singapore Grand Prix, stewards decided that Max Verstappen must perform "public interest work" for using language considered "coarse, rude, or potentially offensive."
This ruling came after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem suggested that drivers could face penalties for swearing over team radio.
Several drivers, including Verstappen, pushed back against Ben Sulayem’s comments.
Lewis Hamilton criticized him for using "stereotypical" language with a "racial element" in his remarks.
Verstappen met with the stewards for 13 minutes between practice sessions.
The stewards stated that language in news conferences should "meet generally accepted standards for all audiences" and highlighted that F1 drivers are seen as role models.
