Dutch player Michael van Gerwen edged out fellow countryman Gian van Veen with a score of 8-7 to win the Hungarian Darts Trophy.
At 35, Michael van Gerwen clinched his first ranking title of the year at Players Championship 21 on September 18, and he continued his winning streak at the MVM Dome in Budapest.
In a thrilling best-of-15 final, he found himself trailing 7-6 against fellow Dutch player Gian van Veen. However, a crucial break of throw brought him back to level terms, and he confidently sealed the victory in the final leg.
Remarkably, this was Van Gerwen's first time advancing past the quarter-finals at the Hungarian Darts Trophy. He kicked off the tournament with strong 6-2 wins over England’s Martin Lukeman and Germany’s Gabriel Clemens.
