Alex Morgan, a two-time Women's World Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist with the U.S., has announced her retirement from professional football.
Alex Morgan, 35, announced her retirement from professional football in a social media video on Thursday. She also revealed that she is expecting her second child.
Morgan, a global icon in women's football, will play her final match on Sunday with San Diego Wave against North Carolina Courage. In 2022, she was part of the U.S. team that achieved a historic equal pay deal.
Morgan expressed pride in her contributions to the game and noted that deciding to retire was difficult. "By early 2024, I felt in my heart and soul that this would be my final season," she said.
Morgan, who gave birth to her daughter Charlie in May 2020, joined Tottenham in the Women's Super League later that year but played only four matches before returning to the U.S.
