A nine-year-old Argentine motorbike rider tragically passed away after sustaining severe injuries in a crash during a practice session at a junior competition held in Brazil.
Nine-year-old Lorenzo Somaschini was participating in the free practice session for the Honda Junior Cup, a prominent youth racing event in the region, on Friday when he crashed at Sao Paulo's Interlagos track.
From Rosario, Lorenzo was rushed to Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, where he sadly passed away on Monday, as confirmed by SuperBike Brazil, the event organizers.
Despite immediate medical attention and stabilization, Lorenzo's condition deteriorated, leading to his transfer to intensive care on Saturday.
In a statement, SuperBike Brazil expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, extending condolences to Lorenzo's family and friends.
Known affectionately as Lolo, the young rider honored three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo by sporting the number 99 on his bike.
Jorge Lorenzo, in response, shared his heartbreak on Instagram, acknowledging Lorenzo's admiration and expressing condolences to his family.
The Honda Junior Cup caters to riders aged between eight and 16, featuring modified motorbikes with specialized pedals and handlebars, capable of reaching speeds of up to 100km (62 miles) per hour.
