Northern Ireland's veteran rider and six-time world champion, Jonathan Rea, faced a tough challenge during the second round of the World Superbike races in Barcelona.
Turkey's rising star, Toprak Razgatlioglu, celebrated his maiden victory for BMW in the first race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, showcasing his skills by overtaking Italy's Nicolo Bulega on the final lap.
Bulega's strong performance, although narrowly missing out on the win, propelled him one point ahead of England's Alex Lowes, who had a decent sixth-place finish. Unfortunately, Sam Lowes, Alex's twin brother, had a mishap and crashed out while leading the race.
For Jonathan Rea, the frustrations continued as he faced retirement on the first lap of Saturday's race. This disappointing result followed a challenging start with Yamaha in the previous round at Phillip Island, Australia, where he finished 17th and experienced a crash that led to him being stretchered off the track.
Rea's struggles were compounded by handling issues with his bike, leaving him feeling "lost" on the circuit. Despite the setback, England's Alex Lowes maintained his lead in the championship, albeit with a reduced margin over Bulega, who demonstrated a strong performance throughout the race.
The thrilling battle between Razgatlioglu and Bulega showcased the competitive spirit of World Superbike racing, with Razgatlioglu's impressive comeback securing a memorable victory in Barcelona.
