Top Seed Swiatek Shocked by Putintseva in Third Round Upset.

Top seed Iga Swiatek experienced a surprise defeat in the third round at Wimbledon, losing to world number 35 Yulia Putintseva.

Yulia Putintseva mounted a comeback after losing the first set to upset Poland's Iga Swiatek 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at Wimbledon.

Putintseva, buoyed by a supportive Court One crowd, sealed the victory on her third match point, ending Swiatek's impressive 21-match winning streak.

Known for her precise play, Swiatek struggled with 34 unforced errors compared to Putintseva's 18.

"It feels really, really great," Putintseva commented in her on-court interview. "I felt in the zone and played with intensity to entertain everyone with my shots."

Putintseva's victory marked a milestone at Wimbledon, where she had never progressed beyond the second round despite quarter-final appearances at the French Open and US Open. Her win also capped off a strong grass-court season, having claimed the Birmingham Classic title last month.

On the other hand, grass remains Swiatek's least successful surface, with Wimbledon being the only Grand Slam where she has yet to advance past the quarter-finals.
