Thiem's Grand Slam Journey Concludes with US Open First-Round Exit.

Dominic Thiem's Grand Slam career ended in the US Open first round on Monday, as the former champion lost to Ben Shelton.

Austria’s Dominic Thiem won his only Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 2020, coming back from two sets down to defeat Alexander Zverev.

However, he struggled with a wrist injury afterward and announced in May that this would be his final year on tour.

Thiem lost 6-4 6-2 6-2 to Ben Shelton, and the two players shared a warm embrace at the net. Shelton then urged the Arthur Ashe crowd to show appreciation for Thiem.

Unlike the trophy presentation four years ago, which was held without fans due to Covid-19 restrictions, Thiem expressed his gratitude to the supporters who attended this time.
