South Africa has included 18-year-old legspinner Seshnie Naidu and 20-year-old seamer Ayanda Hlubi in their T20 World Cup squad for the UAE. Both are new faces among the otherwise seasoned 15-player team.
Both players were in the squad for the first Under-19 Women’s World Cup in South Africa last year.
Apart from wicketkeeper Mieke de Ridder, the squad includes players from the team that reached the final of the 2023 T20 World Cup.
Missing from the squad are Lara Goodall, Masabata Klaas, Delmi Tucker, and retired Shabnim Ismail.
Dillon du Preez remains interim coach after taking over from Hilton Moreeng in June, with a permanent head coach yet to be appointed.
Laura Wolvaardt will captain the team, which features experienced players like allrounder Marizanne Kapp, opener Tazmin Brits, and seamer Ayabonga Khaka.
Nadine de Klerk, recovering from an Achilles injury, is expected to be fit for the tournament.
The squad will play three matches in Pakistan before heading to the UAE, their last game being against India in July.
