Tamberi Hospitalized Days Before High Jump Title Defense.

Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi has been hospitalized just days before defending the high jump title he famously shared in Tokyo.

Just three days before the qualifying round at the Paris Games, Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi has been hospitalized with a suspected kidney issue.

In a memorable moment from Tokyo, Tamberi shared gold with Qatar's Mutaz Barshim after both cleared the same heights. However, Tamberi recently shared a photo from his hospital bed, revealing: 'Unbelievable... this can’t be true. I felt a sharp pain in my side yesterday.

'After an emergency room visit, CT scan, ultrasound, and blood tests, it’s likely a kidney stone. Now, just days before the event I’ve sacrificed so much for, I’m lying in bed with a 38.8°C fever.'

The 32-year-old has been advised to delay his travel to Paris until Monday.
