Tottenham Hotspur announced they will take the "strongest possible action" in response to the "appalling homophobic chanting" that occurred during their victory at Manchester United on Sunday.
The chanting was heard as Spurs dominated a 10-man Manchester United team, winning 3-0 at Old Trafford.
In a statement, Tottenham condemned the behavior, saying, "This is simply unacceptable, hugely offensive, and not a way to show support for the team."
The club will work closely with police and stewards to identify those involved in the chanting and will take "the strongest possible action" according to their sanctions and banning policy.
Tottenham emphasized, "We all have a responsibility to be ambassadors for the club, and discrimination of any kind has no place here."
They also reminded fans that they can report incidents directly to the club and will continue collaborating with their LGBTQ+ supporters' group, Proud Lilywhites.
"We're all Spurs fans just like you," Proud Lilywhites stated on X. "When you sing these songs, you're telling us we don't belong; but we do, just as much as you do."
