Somerset Defeats Surrey, Enhancing Title Hopes.

Spinners Archie Vaughan and Jack Leach led a dramatic late collapse for Surrey, helping Somerset secure a thrilling 111-run victory. This win significantly boosts Somerset's chances of claiming their first-ever County Championship title.

Chasing 221 on a spinning pitch, Surrey was bowled out for 111 with under five minutes left in the match. 18-year-old Archie Vaughan took 5-38, finishing with 11-140, while Jack Leach added 5-37.

Dom Sibley (56) and Ben Foakes (20) put up some resistance with a fourth-wicket stand of 49, but Surrey crumbled as they lost seven wickets for just 14 runs.

Somerset, having extended their second-innings score from 194-9 to 224 all out, saw contributions from Tom Banton (46) and Craig Overton, who remained unbeaten on 49. Their partnership of 71 gave Somerset a real chance at victory.

Somerset earned 21 points to Surrey’s five, narrowing the gap at the top of the table to just eight points with two matches remaining. Despite losing eight overs to early rain, Overton and Banton managed to build a half-century partnership in 61 balls.
