Scottish Football Not Nurturing Young Talent, Claims SFA.

A report by the Scottish FA reveals that Scottish clubs are not developing enough young players.

The Scottish FA reports that Scottish football is falling short in youth development compared to similarly sized countries.

Data shows that players under 21 in Scotland are getting less game time in the top league than their peers in Denmark, Norway, and Croatia.

Scottish players also have less exposure in major European competitions compared to those from smaller nations like Montenegro and North Macedonia.

The report highlights missed opportunities for clubs to lower wage costs and boost transfer income by nurturing their own talent.

Commissioned by the SFA’s professional game board at the end of 2023, the findings will now be reviewed by a group of SPFL and SFA representatives.
