Rooney Poised for Official Confirmation as Plymouth Manager.

Wayne Rooney is anticipated to be officially announced as the new head coach of Plymouth Argyle, a Championship team, following discussions about the position.

Wayne Rooney, at 38, is eager to rebuild his coaching reputation following a tough stint at Birmingham last season, where he suffered nine losses out of 15 games.

Plymouth Argyle has been on the hunt for a new boss since parting ways with Ian Foster towards the end of the previous season.

Neil Dewsnip, the director of football, and coach Kevin Nancekivell stepped in for the remainder of the campaign, steering Plymouth to safety, ironically at Birmingham's expense.

Dewsnip's familiarity with Rooney dates back to their time together at Everton's academy, lending a sense of connection to this potential partnership.

Rooney's extensive playing career includes notable spells with Everton, Manchester United, MLS side DC United, and Derby County. He transitioned into a player-coach role at Derby in November 2020, ultimately announcing his retirement just two months later upon becoming the permanent manager.

During his tenure at Derby, Rooney oversaw 85 games before heading back to the United States to manage DC United, his former club.

His managerial journey then led him to Birmingham in October 2023, a tenure cut short after less than three months. Now, with the possibility of leading Plymouth, Rooney has a chance to write a new chapter in his coaching career.
